Thinking about upgrading to a gas stove? One of the most common questions we get at AC WORKS® is:
“How can I convert my current electric stove outlet into something I can use for my new gas stove?”

Let’s break it down.

What’s the Issue?

We recently got a call from a customer looking to adapt the existing outlet for their electric range into a standard household 125V power outlet. This is a common request when switching from an electric stove to a gas stove, since gas ranges still require a small amount of electricity for ignition, lights, and control panels.

What Kind of Outlet Do Electric Stoves Use?

Most electric stoves and ovens use a NEMA 14-50 outlet — a powerful 50 amp configuration capable of supplying both 125 and 250 volts. It’s great for large appliances like electric ranges, but not necessary for a gas stove, which typically only needs a standard 125V outlet (like the one your microwave or toaster uses).

What You’ll Need to Convert

To complete this conversion, you’ll need two things:

  1. A gas stove (and a gas hookup in your home).

  2. One of our NEMA 14-50 to 5-15 adapters.

Our recommended adapters for this setup include:

  • AD1450520 – A simple, compact solution.

  • S1450CBF520 – Includes four 5-15 outlets, ideal if you want to power multiple 125V devices.

If you need even more flexibility in your kitchen or workspace, check out our PDU (Power Distribution Unit) outlet boxes, such as:

  • S1450CBF520

  • S1450F520

  • S1450PDU – Great for adding multiple household outlets.

  • PB1450PDU – Our newest release, featuring a piggyback plug, perfect for situations where you don't want to unplug an existing appliance just to power a new one.

Why Use an Adapter?

Switching to a gas stove often means you’ll have a high-powered outlet left over with no use. Our adapters let you safely repurpose that outlet for standard 125V devices — saving you the cost of hiring an electrician or rewiring your kitchen.
